Hopefully he doesnt go to Vermont. He was very impressive yesterday at the scrimmage. Stood out more than grigorenko and armia IMO. |

One would think the org would give him the correct choice. at UV how much would he develop? Would it be more at Rochester, yes I know one is pro one is not but some colleges have great dev programs. |

Because we (fans) like to rush things. He's 18. Let him go to college. |

I would have to think it would be better for his professional career to go to Rochester and get acquainted with the speed of the game and his teammates around him...
just my 2 cents |

Kind of on the fence where I'd prefer he go, but I imagine if he goes to Vermont, then that will delay him another year beyond that to spend some time in Rochester before playing in the NHL.
Course, I think I read something that Ruff was high on this kid and potentially making the team right away even. |

I agree... I think if he goes to Vermont it just prolongs him another year from the NHL... I think the best thing would be to face stiffer competition and create unity with teammates in Rochester..
Even if only were to play like 25 games in Buffalo I think it would be good for his learning curve. |

Playing w/ lesser talent in VT doesn't help him at all. It's not about rushing the kid, it's more about not stunting his development
I don't need him to be rushed. I think he should play in Rochester, not center Vanek and Pommer |

It doesn't sound like he's 2 years away. One tops. We'd get a much better idea watching him play in Rochester as opposed to Vermont |

This is Girgensons.... Didn't he play wing all development camp??
Is that a permanent thing or was that just for camp??? I don't think they would put him there just for camp in but maybe they wanted Girgensons - Grigs - Armia together who knows. |

zags was in a f'd up situation
rochester was a split club with the panthers, and when zags was getting it, sabres decided it was better to put mair on the dot for the second line.
zags was the only center drafted in the first 3 rounds after 2001 and there lies the problem |

This organization hasn't drafted good centers. Roy was the best one drafted in over 20 years. Hard to develop what you don't have |

What was considered Girgensons ceiling?? a 3C checking line??
But everyone is saying he showed very good offensive awareness in camp.. so MAYBE a 2C..
All I have to say is.... if we have 2 rookies that are fringe NHL ready... we are in a good spot!! |

Just for fun, since I decided to shake the dust off my NHL simulator game, here are the lines that the game decided to setup for me. Realize this is the roster as of the end of the season, but missing foligno:
Vanek-Leino-Boyes
Ennis-Roy-Pominville
Gerbe-McCormick-Stafford
Kotalik-Hodgson-Kaleta
bench: Tropp and Ellis (Hecht on IR)
Leopold-Ehrhoff
Regehr-Myers
Sekera-Sulzer
My lines are a bit different than that. |

First you have to remove Roy and Kotalik and like you said, add Foligno. Anyway this season has me worried already and it's only July. Like others have said, I don't understand the direction. Well i kinda do but I don't think it's going to work. When we traded for Ott, I thought great! Now what? I honestly thought there would be more trades a day or two later. Now I think we're done. This will be the line up and I just don't get it.
There's way to many if's and buts to consider the Sabres a playoff team. We lost our first line center ( I didn't like him but he was filling the role). Now all we have is the hope that Hodgson's ready to play first or second line now. The hope that the Foligno, Ennis, Stafford line can play all year the way they finished off the season. I feel Ennis is ready for the task but what are we gonna get from Stafford? Is Foligno going to play a full season with that intensity? How's Leino going to play? Is Grigs ready to contribute in the NHL this year? What's Tropp going to do? I look up and down the roster and every line has a big question mark beside it. That being said, one top center would change the look of this team a ton. Enough rambling. Thoughts? |
